Visiting Egypt

Having started my travel career with tours and cruises in the Ancient World, it was time to visit Egypt. Nothing prepares you for the first glimpse of the pyramids which were actually visible from my Cairo hotel on the Nile.

We cruised the whole Egyptian Nile with river life on each side. The tombs in Luxor that were open for viewing were full of colorful paintings. The beautiful Temple of Philae was viewed from a felucca sail on the Nile, and we completed our cruising journey in Aswan.

We finished at the Mena House with rooms overlooking the Pyramids and I had my first camel ride around the complex. Evening produced a Sound & Light performance and Charlton Heston was the voice of the Sphinx.

On subsequent trips to Egypt, I took the desert road to Alexandria, visited the Fayoum with its functioning water wheels, watched the artisans at the Papyrus factory, and visited the King Tut exhibit in the Cairo Museum. The ancient world is still there and waiting for your visit.
