Finally – I am heading back into the South African bush, traveling with friends who will be making their fourth safari with us. It will be three years since I was there, and I have missed the incredible smell of the damp earth on an early morning game drive – the sound of a lion roaring outside my tent – amazing food and wines – sundowners while watching the sun set – there is nothing so beautiful as an African sunset. There are so many thoughts that come to mind as I go into countdown mode. I love being in the bush in our summer months, winter in Africa. The days are 70-80F, no humidity and lovely clear skies. The nights can get a little chilly, but we are always spoiled with hot water bottles and blankets for our evening game drives. Our first camp is in the Timbavati and then we head down into the Sabi Sands for our next two camps. We always feel so welcome and love the friendships we make at each camp. They say South Africa is a world in one country, and this is true. There is a diversity not found elsewhere. From Cape Town with her waterfront restaurants and fabulous properties up into the vineyards. Table Mountain and the comical penguins on Boulders Beach and stunning Chapman’s Peak. A few days in Cape Town before venturing out into the bush is a wonderful start to your African adventure. For now, use your imagination, there will be pictures when I return in July.
