During this time of uncertainty it helps to take your mind elsewhere with a book, film, or simply your imagination. We’ve highlighted our favorite destinations in Africa for you to read through and visualize your dream safari or desert experience!
Botswana:
Visiting Botswana is truly an out of world experience. It is home to the 1,000th UNESCO world heritage site – the Okavango Delta. This body of water consists of sinuous blue channels that give life to all of the wildlife around. To the south, you’ll find the Central Kalahari Game Reserve which is one of the largest protected areas in Africa. Botswana is one of the best locations for game viewing as you’ll be sure to witness elephants, leopards, lions, zebras, giraffes – and that is just to name a few!
Namibia:
Namibia is home to endless serene landscapes filled with untouched beauty. This country is home to the dune fields of Sossusvlei along with the lunar-like area of Damaraland. Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is known for its desert adapted wildlife which include lions, giraffes, elephants, and brown hyenas along with a wild coastline. In the Sossusvlei region, Little Kulala Camp has just undergone a renovation becoming 100% powered by solar energy in order to have a light footprint and minimal impact on the Namib desert.
Zimbabwe:
Zimbabwe is home to the wondrous Victoria Falls. Here, you’ll not only have the chance to experience the falls upfront, you’ll be able to see a bird’s eye view of the magnificent falls from a helicopter ride! Along with the falls there is plenty of opportunity for spectacular game viewing within Hwange National Park which is the largest game reserve in Zimbabwe.
Rwanda:
If it has ever been your dream to see a gorilla or golden monkey up close in its natural habitat then a visit to Rwanda is a must. Here, you’ll be able to trek your way through the wilderness and spot these beautiful primates. It doesn’t stop there – in addition to gorilla and golden monkey trekking there are cultural visits as well as unique cuisine to taste! Bisate Lodge, located in Volcanoes National Park, is one of our favorite places to stay. Rwanda is set to reopen August 1st to all tourists with restrictions set in place.
Whether it is your dream to witness amazing wildlife, become captivated by the Victoria Falls, or make eye contact with a gorilla, the countries of Southern and Eastern Africa have it all. To discover more about planning your trip to Africa please contact Esplanade today!
