Travel to Darwin
Where Adventure Meets Untamed Beauty
Darwin, a balmy tropical town on the Timor Sea, is a destination that is both rich in Aboriginal history and rugged natural beauty. Head out with your guide to Kakadu National Park or Arnhem Land, discover ancient Aboriginal rock art, watch Aboriginal artists at work, fish for barramundi, and listen to the famous didgeridoo in its birthplace. Check out the Katherine Gorge or swim in a crystal-clear waterhole in Litchfield National Park. It takes time to explore all this region has to offer, but it’s worth every minute.
A NOTE FROM THE EXPERTS
Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the area by attending Aboriginal cultural events and learning from local Indigenous guides, enhancing your understanding and appreciation of this unique corner of Australia.
UNIQUE EXPERIENCES
Travel Australia in the most romantic way on one of the world’s great train journeys, The Ghan. Board in Darwin and be whisked away through the majestic Red Center, travel the whole length of Australia, or stop and explore more of the rugged outback Australia is known for. Named after Aghan cameleers who traversed the route long before the train line was built, The Ghan travels an epic 1846 miles between Darwin and Adelaide, stopping en route at Alice Springs and Katherine.
OUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR TO GO
The best time to visit Darwin and the Northern Territory is during the dry season from May to October when the weather is mild and comfortable for outdoor activities such as hiking, wildlife spotting, and exploring national parks.
INSIDER TIP
Search for saltwater crocodiles in Darwin, as there are almost as many crocodiles as people in the Top End. This region was home to the man who inspired Crocodile Dundee. You can see the crocodiles in the wild in the nearby Adelaide River to get your adrenaline going.
