Peru has always been a top destination in South America, for reasons beyond the ruins of Machu Picchu. There are the vibrant cities of Lima and Cusco, the mysterious Nazca Lines, a multitude of ancient temples and archaeology, breathtaking Colca Canyon, and peaceful Lake Titicaca – not to mention the friendly and welcoming attitude of the Peruvian people.
Now, it has become a bit easier to enter Peru for your bucket list adventure. As of November 2016, Peru has been utilizing a virtual Immigration Card (also called a TAM Card) rather than a physical form. This has made the process more efficient and cut down on paperwork.
Now, when you enter Peru, you will proceed right to the Immigration Agent with your passport and your details will be entered electronically. They will record your fingerprint and take a photograph before stamping your passport. Please remember to request your printed virtual Immigration Card and check that your passport has been correctly stamped and then you can be on your way.
It makes sense after all – in a country with so much to do, why waste a second more than necessary in line at immigration?
